Conjunctivitis and Pink Eye

Redness, irritation, and pussy discharge can be caused by a virus, bacteria or allergy. I will decide whether there is a risk that this is a bacterial infection and if topical antibiotics will be needed.

If there is a clear discharge, then it might just be an irritation or allergy that won’t be likely to be helped with antibiotics. You will need an appointment so that I can determine a likely cause of the eye inflammation. It may be necessary to refer to an eye specialist (ophthalmologist). Itchy, red eyes with hay fever symptoms may be relieved with non-prescription allergy eye drops like Visine™. If used and there is no improvement after one dose do not continue.
